Parody Hilarity with The Bible Players

New Class
The Bible Players

As long as there has been music, there have been great parody songs. Together we will study the elements that we want to include in a parody song. We will look at the classic parodies of the master Weird Al Yankovic and talk about what makes them great. We will discuss how prayers and Jewish traditions have evolved over time to make them more accessible and exciting for folks. After picking our songs to parody we will write the elements of the song, rehearse, and perform them.

Course Outline:

Picking the Perfect song and Holiday Hilarity - In our 1st class we will talk about what makes a great parody and listen to examples, and pick a song or two that we’d like to parody, and take a deep dive into Hanukkah and do some brainstorming of elements and themes to include in our songs.

Writers Write!...and Rewrite! - In our 2nd class we will write our parody songs solo or in groups using various techniques of creative writing.

Review and Silly Singing Time - In our 3rd class we will perform after some rewriting for humor and for holiday details.

Requirements
We will be singing, moving, and making lots of noise. So make sure you have space to move and won't bother folks with loud noises.
