Description

Creative: Hebrew Calendar
This program is designed to introduce new Minecraft players to the creative building aspect of the game. Participants will practice using the game’s basic controls and become familiar with its wide selection of building blocks as their instructor guides them through constructing suns and moons while learning about the Hebrew calendar!

Movement: Eilat
Players continue their Minecraft boot camp by taking a field trip to a virtual recreation of Dolphin Reef in Eilat, where they not only learn about the site, but work to hone their movement skills by exploring the beach and swimming with the dolphins.

Defense: Masada
For their next Minecraft lesson, participants learn how to defend themselves against the game’s monsters, like zombies. They then visit a virtual recreation of Masada, learning the impactful story of the Jews who once lived there. Finally, they practice their newly-acquired skills by playing Village Defense, a cooperative minigame where players defend villagers (peaceful, human-like beings) from zombies, while imagining the siege that could’ve taken place between the Zealots and the Romans at Masada.

Survival: Kibbutz
Minecraft boot camp ends with a lesson on one of the game’s staple gamemodes: survival. Players will be guided through gathering materials that will help them complete the gamemode’s goal of surviving the night. By working as a team to complete tasks like building a shelter and gathering food, players come to understand the classic Kibbutz lifestyle.
